Each week, JB Talking Sports recognizes the two players who delivered the most outstanding performances in college football—one on offense and one on defense.

Offensive Gridiron Award

The Gridiron Awards

Kamario Taylor, QB, Mississippi State

Taylor completed 16 of 22 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another 86 yards in Mississippi State’s 38-13 road victory over Minnesota.

That gave the sophomore 313 yards of total offense, three touchdowns and no turnovers. Taylor didn’t merely put up numbers—he controlled the game and announced himself as one of the fastest-rising quarterbacks in college football.

Defensive Gridiron Award

The Gridiron Awards

Princewill Umanmielen, Edge, LSU

Umanmielen was nearly unblockable against Louisiana Tech, finishing with five tackles, four tackles for loss and three sacks.

Statistics don’t always tell the entire story, but these come pretty damn close. Umanmielen lived in the opponent’s backfield and led an LSU defense that allowed minus-three rushing yards.

Two sides of the football. Two dominant performances. Two winners of this week’s Gridiron Awards.
