Both teams enter Gainesville wounded.

South Carolina is 2–3 after blowing a 17-point lead against Kentucky, while Florida is coming off a stunning 45–17 loss at Missouri. The Gators remain nearly a two-touchdown favorite, but Missouri exposed some vulnerabilities that give Carolina at least a fighting chance.

WHEN SOUTH CAROLINA HAS THE BALL

LaNorris Sellers is Carolina’s most dangerous weapon when he becomes a decisive runner. He rushed for 147 yards against Kentucky, and the Gamecocks may need another performance approaching that level.

Missouri held Florida to just 42 rushing yards, so Carolina cannot expect its running backs to consistently control the game. Kendall Briles must use Sellers on designed runs, move the pocket and attack Florida’s defense before it can get settled.

Carolina’s receivers remain the wild card. Florida can be attacked through the air, but Sellers must deliver the ball accurately and his receivers must finish plays. Dropped passes and stalled possessions will be fatal in Gainesville.

WHEN FLORIDA HAS THE BALL

Jadan Baugh is the central figure. Missouri held him to only 13 rushing yards, but South Carolina has repeatedly struggled to maintain its run fits and finish tackles. Florida will test that weakness immediately.

Aaron Philo has generally played efficient football and protected the ball. Florida does not need him to dominate this matchup. It needs him to remain patient and punish Carolina whenever the defense becomes overly committed to stopping Baugh.

THE DECIDING FACTORS

• Florida’s rushing offense against Carolina’s vulnerable front seven

• South Carolina’s ability to finish drives instead of settling for field goals

• Sellers avoiding the critical turnover

• Carolina’s receivers eliminating dropped passes

• Shane Beamer’s fourth-down and late-game decisions

• Whether Florida responds confidently or carries the Missouri loss into this game

PROJECTED GAME SCRIPT

Carolina comes out aggressively and keeps the game competitive early behind Sellers’ legs. Florida eventually begins winning the line of scrimmage, Baugh finds more running room, and the Gamecocks’ defense wears down during the second half.

South Carolina produces enough offense to remain within striking distance, but another dropped pass, failed fourth down or costly penalty prevents the Gamecocks from mounting a serious fourth-quarter comeback.

FINAL PREDICTION

FLORIDA 38
SOUTH CAROLINA 27

PREDICTED MVP: Jadan Baugh

SOUTH CAROLINA’S UPSET FORMULA: Sellers rushes for more than 100 yards, Carolina creates at least two takeaways and the Gamecocks finally play four disciplined quarters.
