This was a woefully poor performance by South Carolina—and an equally poor coaching job.

I was criticized by Gamecock fans earlier this season for questioning LaNorris Sellers’ accuracy and pointing out the number of underthrown balls. They said I was overreacting.

Overreacting, my ass.

We saw what happened tonight when Sellers finally faced an SEC opponent—and not even one of the conference’s elite teams. He is a hell of an athlete and, by every account, a great young man. But right now, he is a terrible passer.

I don’t think people understand just how limited Kendal Briles’ offensive scheme becomes with Sellers at quarterback. The passing game poses no consistent threat, which allows defenses to crowd the line, take away the run and shrink the entire playbook.

Defensively, South Carolina couldn’t stop the run and failed to make the necessary adjustments. The Gamecocks were outplayed, outcoached and physically beaten by a team they were supposed to defeat at home.

And KaMario Taylor is exactly what I told everyone he was: one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He proved it tonight against an SEC defense, on the road.

If this is who South Carolina really is, the Gamecocks will be lucky to win four games.
