Texas Tech survived Houston 28–26, but the Red Raiders did not look anything like the No. 13 team in the country for much of this game.
Houston jumped ahead 10–0, controlled the early tempo and stood inches away from forcing overtime in the final minute. Conner Weigman’s two-point conversion attempt came up just short after Houston had pulled within two on a touchdown pass to Patrick Overmyer.
Give Texas Tech credit for responding. Will Hammond helped steady the offense, while J’Koby Williams and Cameron Dickey delivered important touchdown runs during the comeback. Good teams find ways to win games when they are not playing their best, and that is exactly what Texas Tech did.
But let’s not confuse survival with dominance.
The Red Raiders escaped at home against a Houston team that exposed some legitimate weaknesses. Texas Tech remains undefeated, but based on what I saw tonight, this does not look like one of the 13 best teams in America. It looked like a talented team fortunate to walk away with a win.
