One of the features I used to do back in my SCVarsity days was something called Star Watch. Every week I would pick out a handful of players I wanted people to keep an eye on that weekend.

Well, Star Watch is back.

And we’re starting with a pair of running backs from Louisville who I think could have a lot to say about what happens Sunday night against Ole Miss.

Isaac Brown and Keyjuan Brown. And no, they’re not related.

These two were ridiculous last season.

Isaac Brown led the nation averaging 8.8 yards per carry, rushing for 884 yards despite playing in only nine games. Keyjuan Brown wasn’t far behind, averaging 7.3 yards every time he touched it and rushing for 704 yards.

Think about that for a second.

Louisville had two running backs who combined for 1,588 yards while averaging better than seven yards per carry.

That’s not just a good running game. That’s a problem.

And Isaac Brown is a guy I think people need to start paying a little more attention to nationally.

If Louisville has the kind of season I think they’re capable of having and Brown stays healthy and puts up the numbers his talent suggests he can put up, don’t be surprised if his name starts working its way into the Heisman Trophy conversation.

I’m not predicting he’s going to win the Heisman.

I’m telling you he has that kind of ability.

Brown has explosive acceleration, outstanding vision and the ability to turn a crease into a big play in a hurry. He’s already rushed for more than 2,000 yards in his first two seasons while averaging 7.7 yards per carry for his career.

And then you’ve got Keyjuan Brown standing right there beside him.

That’s what makes Louisville so interesting to me.

The more I’ve looked at this football team, the more I like them. They beat Miami last season, and their three losses came by a combined seven points, with two of those games going to overtime.

This was a much better football team than the final record might make you believe.

I’ve said I think Ole Miss wins Sunday night. I’m still leaning that way.

But I’m not nearly as comfortable with that pick as I was before I really started digging into Louisville.

If the Cardinals are going to pull the upset, I think it starts right here.

Isaac Brown. Keyjuan Brown.

Remember those names Sunday night.

They’re officially on JB’s Star Watch.
