JARON-KEAWE SAGAPOLUTELE
California | Quarterback | Sophomore
6-foot-3 | 225 pounds
Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele is one of the sophomore quarterbacks NFL scouts need to begin tracking right now.
Sagapolutele has the size, arm strength and natural throwing ability you look for in a future NFL quarterback. The football comes out of his hand with very little wasted motion, and he can drive it into tight windows from the pocket. He also throws the deep ball with good touch and gives his receivers opportunities to make plays down the field.

What stands out to me is that he doesn’t have to be perfectly balanced to generate velocity. He can change his arm angle, throw while moving and still deliver a catchable football. He’s not a true dual-threat quarterback, but he moves well enough to escape pressure, extend a play and reset outside the pocket.
As a freshman, Sagapolutele completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 3,454 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions. That is impressive production for a young quarterback who was asked to carry a large part of the offense.
There are still some things he must clean up.
His decision-making can become aggressive when the first read is taken away. He will occasionally trust his arm too much and attempt throws that aren’t available. I also want to see him become more consistent with his lower-body mechanics. When his feet get hurried, his accuracy and ball placement can suffer.
He has thrown eight touchdowns against five interceptions through his first five games this season, so protecting the football remains part of his development. The talent is obvious, but the next step is learning when to take the available throw instead of hunting for the spectacular one.
Sagapolutele is not a finished product, and no sophomore quarterback should be evaluated as one. However, he already possesses several traits that cannot be taught.
He has legitimate NFL arm talent, a strong frame and valuable starting experience. If he continues developing his processing, anticipation and pocket discipline, Sagapolutele could become one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects in the 2028 NFL Draft class.
MY EARLY EVALUATION
Strengths: Arm strength, compact release, deep-ball touch, pocket mobility and toughness.
Needs improvement: Decision-making, consistent footwork, anticipation and turnover management.
Early projection: High-upside developmental prospect with the physical tools to eventually become an early-round NFL Draft candidate.
This is a young quarterback worth putting on the watchlist now.
